The Kentucky Great River Road encapsulates four counties – Ballard, Carlisle, Fulton, and Hickman – and runs more than 60 miles in the far western part of the state. It is known for its picturesque riverfront landscapes and being sprinkled with parks, making the Great River Road a wonderful viewing location for the 2024 Solar Eclipse on April 8th. Some great viewing locations include Wickliffe Mounds State Park, Fort Jefferson Memorial Cross Overlook, and Columbus-Belmont State Park.

While you’re in the area, you will want to know that there are two historical state parks, an ATV riding park, Wildlife Management Areas that provide scenic river vistas, and a variety of local dining, sipping (like 4th Street Coffee Company), and shopping options.

If you’re looking for a home base for your Eclipse adventure, you will be able to choose from bed and breakfasts, lodges, or campsites, including a river-cliff campground near Columbus-Belmont State Park that boasts 38 sites with hook-ups and grills. If you’re looking to be right on the Mississippi River for the viewing, Indian Campground is right next to Carlisle River Bottoms and also equipped with hook-ups.
