ʻĪao Valley State Monument

ʻĪao Valley State Monument is one of the most lush and peaceful places we visited on Maui. Located in central part of the island, the valley is known for its dramatic green peaks, dense rainforest, and the iconic ʻĪao Needle towering above the valley floor.

We stopped here for a short visit and took a quick hike down toward the river.

Even if you’re only passing through for a brief stop, it’s worth taking a little time to wander the trails and soak in the peacefulness of the valley. The park has paved walkways, making it accessible for more people. Out-of-state visitors will need to make a reservation prior to visiting, here.

If you’re looking for a quick nature escape while exploring Maui, ʻĪao Valley is a beautiful place to slow down, breathe deeply, and experience the island’s lush landscape.
