Angel Mounds State Historic Site

Along the banks of the Ohio River in southwest Indiana, you’ll find Angel Mounds State Historic Site. This preserved series of mounds stand as a testament to pre-contact Native American civilization in North America.

The mounds were constructed between A.D. 1000 and 1450, when this settlement thrived with a population exceeding 1,000 belonging to the Mississippian culture. Features of this ancient town include earthen mounds meticulously crafted to elevate significant structures. When we were there, the grounds around the mounds had just been mowed for hay, which made the entire area easier to access.

There are small admissions to enter the site and there is an interpretive center on site with many exhibits.
