Betty’s Pies

The truth is that it was love at first sight for us and Betty.  This adorable cottage-like pie kitchen, turned restaurant – sitting on top of a lovely forested hill – with their signature blue – you can see why she won our hearts.

You see in 1957 Betty’s father built a small fish shack, as a stop for fisherman along the North Shore. Betty soon started providing coffee and doughnuts, which led to hamburger, hot dogs and pies!  In 1958, the cafe was built.  Today they not only serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, but they also ship pies all over the nation.

We had dinner at Betty’s. If you are old enough to remember the frozen fish sticks of the last century – you’ll be happy to know that Betty’s Split Rock Fish & Chips is an elevated taste that will have you reminiscing.  We also had the MOST delicious chicken salad sandwich on cranberry wild rice bread and the stormy weather stacker – all delicious.

But now, let’s talk pies.  First thing to note is that there are multiple screens throughout the restaurant that roll through pie availability.  Look quick and think fast because availability WILL change right before your eyes!  We had slices of their:

  • Great Lake Crunch Pie – apples, blueberries, raspberries, rhubarb, strawberries, topped with a delicious topping of oatmeal, brown sugar, white sugar and butter.
  • Turtle Coconut Cream Pie
  • 5 Layer Chocolate Cream Pie

Also, pro-tip: the love for Betty’s is big and they stay busy – you can call ahead and let them know what time you’ll be there!!
