Downtown Bowling Green

Downtown Bowling Green in the heart of BGKY. A quick scouting trip to Downtown Bowling Green, planning for an overnight there, turned into a wonderful day worth writing about itself.
I met up with a friend at Cafe Kindness to get the morning started & asked for a blenders choice smoothie, which was delicious. There were delicious bowls being brunched, over friendly conversations full of laughter. Watching people walk in and smile when they’d found their friends was a joy, this seems to be quite the local meet up spot. It was easy to see why.
After some delightful conversation of my own, with the downtown development coordinator – I took her advice and stopped by several spots on the square. Here’s what I thought were the highlights of each spot:
- Morris Jewelers: the beauty of the historic building‘s interior set the stage for the story tellers behind the counters, those guys know their Bowling Green – oh, and this business has been around for 142 years!
- Mary Janes Chocolates: chocolate of course, beautiful, hand-made delicacies that are delicious
- Candlemakers on the Square: I loved the individually made products that can be purchased in the same scent story, discover that you like Capri?? Great, you can take home a candle and laundry soap in the same scent. (which I did)
- Meltdown: the sweetest ice cream maker, who small batches her ice cream with local milk and cream. I chose the FroHoCo, made with her own hot chocolate mix.
- Melodies and Memories: SO fun to see so many memorable items from so many decades.
- The Lunchbox Cafe: delicious daily specials in such a classic little atmosphere.
- Spencer’s Coffee: tasty, thoughtful, and high-quality beverages and bites.
- Gerard’s 1907 Tavern: the Fig & Brie burger – a must!
There a couple of things that Downtown Bowling Green also has going on that you should know about. First, Fountain Row is a designated entertainment district that encourages visitors to explore more of the historic streets and parks, window shop, and enjoy outdoor events. And secondly, Duncan Hines Days promises so many layers of fun – just like those cakes we love. These Days celebrate the original road-tripper and happens each June.
