Downtown Lunenburg

Charm and history collide in this UNESCO World Heritage Site that is a quick half hour drive from Mahone Bay. Old Town Lunenburg earned its prestigious UNESCO title due to being the best example left of a British settlement colony in North America. The town’s layout on a rectangular grid has been retained since the 18th century, preserving, to this day, the town’s identity through beautiful historical architecture and structures that sit oceanside. The waterfront area is a vibrant hub of activity for tourists and locals alike and streets lined with art galleries, restaurants with fabulous seafood and fresh drinks, gift shops with work by local artisans, and more lead off of it. Don’t miss meandering through the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, hopping on board the famous Bluenose II that’s docked in the harbor, lunching at Salt Shaker, and grabbing views of the colorful village from afar.
