Heinz History Center
The Heinz History Center is said to be the top history museum in America! After visiting, we get it. With six expansive floors covering everything from sports and slavery to Mister Rogers and ketchup, there’s truly something for everyone – even the kids.
We chose to traverse the museum by starting at the top where the library is housed. With each floor we descended, we were more and more in awe of how much information was within a single building. We were taken from the French & Indian War to modern sports science, finding exhibits of glass and condiments in between. Even the pieces they have in storage are on display.
We’ve never been to another museum quite on this level – it’s absolutely worth adding to your Pittsburgh itinerary.
Plan to spend at least half a day here if you want to experience it all. And when you need a break, there are plenty of seating areas with city views throughout the museum, plus a café on the first floor.
At the Heinz History Center, you’re within walking distance to all the restaurants and shop in The Strip District and Downtown. With parking right beside the building, it’s easy to use the location as an anchor to build an itinerary for your day.
