Iona’s Beach

Did you know that Minnesota has a pink beach? And a sweet story to go with?

As the story goes, Iona Lind saw this pink haven for the first time in the 1930’s and it was love at first sight.  Her family soon purchased the property on Lake Superior and built Twin Points Resort that they ran together for the next half century. Before Iona’s death, in an effort to protect her beloved beach for all – she gave to Minnesota the “wild and rocky beach so that everyone might fall in love with it.”  Well done Iona. And thanks.

And just when you think this story can’t get any better??  The pebble beach does sing. You’ll hear their chiming melody as you walk across and as the waves hit the shore. Enjoy.

Other things to know about Iona’s Beach, the trail to the beach is just off the Gitchi-Gami Trail and is a SNA (scientific and natural area) of Minnesota’s Department of Natural Resources.
