The Lighthouse Restaurant at Sulphur Well
A destination worth it’s own road-trip through Kentucky is The Lighthouse Restaurant at Sulphur Well. Sulphur Well is located in Metcalfe County and is truly out in the “middle of no where” on the banks of the Little Barren River. If you’re visiting Mammoth Cave National Park this deliciousness is 26 miles away. If you’re at Barren River Lake State Park it is 35 miles from you!
We went recently on a Thursday for lunch and had no trouble getting a table, HOWEVER, almost every weekend is fully booked by reservation. With over 40K followers on their Facebook page, this favorite is now in Kentucky Living‘s Best in Kentucky Hall of Fame as a Best Downhome Restaurant. Take a minute to admire those awards that line the wall as you wait to be seated.
There’s no doubt that what keeps people coming back to this spot is the All-You-Can-Eat Family Style Catfish, Fried Chicken and Penn’s Country Ham meal. Brought to your table in shareable bowls and platters, this meal also includes cole slaw, sliced tomatoes, green beans, creamy stewed potatoes, baby lima beans, fried apples, red-eye gravy and biscuits. As the menu proclaims, it is their specialty and a customer favorite.
Here’s a little bit of a close-up look at what was included in our meal for two.
One of the most important things to know is that you NEED reservations, they are currently only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11:00 am-7:00 pm . Give them a call at (270) 565-3095 for reservations during regular business hours.
And even though you probably won’t actually have room, you should get the pie! Here’s a look at what was in the pie cases when we road-tripped there. We tried the chess pie and the coconut cream – definitely a great ending to the meal.
As always, thanks for reading and we’d love to hear more about your road-trips too.
