Louisville in the Fall: Bats, Graves, Pumpkins, & Tacos

If spooky season if your favorite time of year then planning a day trip to Louisville is a must!

Caufield’s is an awesome novelty shop located at 1006 West Main Street. Caufield’s has been open since 1920 and has the world’s largest vampire bat hanging outside on the building! They have tons of wigs, costumes, costume makeup, masks, decor and more. Definitely a cool place to check out during October. If you enjoy whiskey and bourbon the Peerless Distillery is right across the street. You can walk across and pick up a spooky delicious bottle or two!

Next stop is Cave Hill Cemetery. Who doesn’t love visiting a graveyard during Halloween month? The 296 acre cemetery is hauntingly beautiful. There are maps available at the office and you can both drive or park and walk. There is a lake located in the middle of the cemetery where you can sit and enjoy watching the geese and ducks swim. Make sure to check out the cool cave entrance by the lake, you can walk a couple feet inside if you dare! Oh and definitely stop by to see Colonel Sanders and Muhammad Ali’s burial sites.

After walking through the cemetery you’ll most likely be hungry. There’s an awesome taco spot located right on Baxter Ave so you won’t have to go far. It’s actually within walking distance of the cemetery so you can park on the street and walk. If you do choose to walk there are two record shops on the way that are definitely worth stopping in. Agave and Rye is the name of the taco spot. It has delicious food, a cool vibe and they have 70 tequila and bourbon options. The menu has 24 different taco options and some non-taco options If that’s not your thing.

The last thing you have to do on your trip is go to the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular in Iroquois Park. You’ll need to purchase your tickets in advance online because they sell out quick. There are several vendors set up with warm apple cider, alcohol, coffee and some food options. The outdoor trail has over 5,000 artistically carved pumpkins that’ll leave you in awe as you walk the trail. Definitely a must see event in October.
