Oak Mountain State Park in Alabama
Oak Mountain State Park is Alabama’s largest state park of 11,632 acres, with over 50 miles of trails and is located in the southern most part of Appalachian Chain. We visited during the winter and enjoyed the Blue Trail to Peavine Falls’ Overlook.
We took the blue trail to Peavine Falls in Oak Mountain State Park & also took the Rim Shelter Trail.
We were smitten with the tiny growing pines that looked like the inspiration for many Dr. Seuss illustrations. Had he hiked these trails before us? Wildflowers were also springing around the trail as the creeks converged to form the falls.
The park also had a playground beside Tranquil Lake and a fun Treetop Nature Trail. There are over 50 miles of hiking and biking trails in the park, an 18 hole golf course and swimming area for the summer months.
Accommodations included cabins and campgrounds. We paid $10 to get into the park. ($5 per adult.)
