Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens
A trip to the Phipps Conservatory and Botanic Garden means stepping into a larger-than-life Victorian-style glass greenhouse full of lush plant life from throughout the world. Cactus gardens, tropical fruits, sustainable landscaping – it is glorious. During our visit, the featured exhibit was the Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Flower Show which added extra layers of whimsy throughout. Various exhibits and events are always happening, including regular yoga classes. We loved the orchid room the most, but the seeing the agave bloom in the cactus room and the giant lily pads float around were also magical experiences.
The Phipps has a cafe and gift shop all of its own. It is located in Schenley Park adjacent to Carnegie Mellon University and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and makes for an amazing addition to the Pittsburgh road trip.
