Pikes Peak

Pikes Peak is one of Colorado’s famed “14ers” – a series of mountain peaks with summits above 14,000 feet. You can drive to the summit of America’s Mountain, the 19-mile paved road is a marvel of engineering. The drive is breathtaking, and you even spot a Bigfoot Crossing sign! My husband drove and was “white knuckling” a few times.

The visitor center at the top is nicely done and there are several paved walkways to explore the summit. It’s 14,115 feet at the summit – we noticed how the altitude affected our breathing, nothing extreme, but you do notice. t takes 2-3 hours to drive up and down, depending on how long you stay at the summit and how many photo stops you make.

There is an admission fee to drive your car. If you choose not to drive, the Cog Railway is a popular option.

We highly recommend going to the summit – it’s otherworldly at the top and something we will always remember.
