Port Royal Historic State Park
This State Park preserves the site of historic Port Royal, one of the earliest colonial communities in Tennessee. We took the walking trail through the archaeological remains of the original settlement, including the foundations of several buildings, which ends at an old metal bridge over the Sulphur Fork Creek that flows into the Red River. The park is also a designated National Historic Landmark.
The Park Staff in the main building at Port Royal are very informative about the history and the general area.
