Split Rock Lighthouse State Park
We have had the opportunity to visit Split Rock Lighthouse State Park twice now, but this was the first time we had taken the time to tour the lighthouse itself. This once federal facility, was built in 1909 and decommissioned in 1969. It stands as a true testament to excellent craftsmanship and maintenance. Every tile – every piece of oak – every section of glass – all precisely cared for through the years.
Having only 32 interior steps to the top of the lighthouse – it is also one of the most easily accessed lighthouses in the nation. Don’t sleep on touring the lighthouse keepers home as well. There are several delights – we won’t spoil them for you – but our photos might.
