The Tower Café: A Cultural Gem
The Tower Café is one of the best places we have ever eaten. The food is spectacular, but it is more than that. You are enveloped with beauty, culture, history, and kindness while you are there. It is an experience.
As you read on the front of their menu, the Tower Café was opened in 1990 on Earth day, with the intent of it being a little global village within Sacramento, while also highlighting the city corner on which it sits. I would say that it has lived up to that intent and even exceeded it. The café is connected to the Tower Theatre – the oldest picture palace still remaining that is continuously running. The theatre was built in 1938!
Upon entering the café you are surrounded by beautiful art representing places from around the globe. You are sure to have a wait here if you’re going for brunch on the weekend (they have been voted best brunch in Sacramento numerous times), but they have the most beautiful garden oasis to wait in and it is honestly nice to have the time to enjoy it. They also have outdoor seating if you choose to dine out there!
The menu highlights many cultures from around the globe – Mexico, Great Britain, Greece, Thailand, Morocco, Santa Fe, and the list goes on. On the weekend brunch menu, you can find their Famous French Toast, a wide variety of egg dishes, and one of our favorites, the Madame Cristo, which is their Famous French Toast stuffed with ham, cheese, eggs, and bechamel sauce. Did we mention that they have been voted best brunch in Sacramento numerous times? They will also have featured food and drink items that change with the seasons.
The brunch is obviously fabulous, but dinner is just as good. Spicy Veracruz Linguini, Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Florentine Ravioli, classic fish and chips, and a variety of burgers, sandwiches, and salads with inspiration from across the globe you are sure to find something you enjoy. And with their extensive and creative drink menu, you will find a cocktail that pairs delightfully with your meal. The best part is that they have a case of housemade desserts that make it painful to choose which you want the most, but we will give a nod to the chocolate cream pie.
Last, but certainly not least, the friendly faces you find serving you here make the experience all the more pleasant. A special shoutout to Edward, whose joy is always contagious.
We are so glad we found Tower Café, and we hope many more will be graced with its feel of connection and delicious food.
