The Ultimate Kentucky Food Guide

We’re bringing you the Ultimate Kentucky Food Guide!

Inspiration for the guide was sparked by a social media comment on one of our posts stating, “You’re only going to find BBQ or fast food in Kentucky.”

It not only saddened us that this was a view someone had of Kentucky’s food scene, it also raised in us a need to share opposing evidence – straight from the delicious tables across the Commonwealth.

There are so many places where people are crafting and serving slow, local flavors. We’ve rounded up some of our favorites and created this guide by region. We obviously have some work to do in the Appalachian and Daniel Boone regions of the state and would love to hear your recommendations over on our socials. Let’s get into it!

Lists are in no particular order.

Bourbon, Horses & History

1.) La Bodeguita De Mima – Louisville

We’ve never had a bad bite here. The plantains at this Cuban restaurant are fab. Refuse to leave without trying the chocolate cigar.

2.) MeeshMeesh Mediterranean – Louisville

Their Chef Noam Blitzer was a finalist for the James Beard Best Chef Award in 2025. There are so many different Mediterranean flavors here. We love the salatim platter.

3.) Back Home Restaurant – Elizabethtown

Back Home is a longstanding crowd favorite that serves elevated country staples.

4.) Dos Mundos – Simpsonville

OMG – everything we tried from Dos Mundos was on point and we were blown away. This Peruvian and Asian fusion restaurant was an excellent recommendation that we’re excited to pass along.

5.) Bell House Restaurant – Shelbyville

The Bell House is known for their hot browns and warm environment – we love both.

6.) Toogie’s Table – Bardstown

Toogie’s is a mix of the traditional history of the restaurant and elevated techniques.

Honorable mention: B&N Food Market – Bagdad

We haven’t actually been to B&N’s restaurant but we did recently try their brisket at the state fair and we are all in. Best brisket we’ve ever tasted.

Northern Kentucky River

1.) Coppin’s at Hotel Covington – Covington

Lovely, lovely, lovely atmosphere and service. The food was impeccable.

2.) Blinker’s Tavern – Covington

We feel that whatever you eat will be great, but the bread pudding? Do not leave without.

3.) Biancke’s – Cynthiana

Biancke’s has been around since time began, which in this case is 1894. It is quality that has stood the test of time in ways that most will never achieve. They’re known for their pies. We enjoyed well prepared plates of food and the Walking Dead Bloody Mary.

Bluegrass, Horses, Bourbon & Boone

1.) Zim’s Cafe – Lexington

With a local ingredient-driven menu, it’s hard to have a bad meal at Zim’s. Whether you’re doing breakfast, lunch, or dinner, don’t miss the cheese grits.

2.) Windy Corner Market – Lexington

Windy Corner Market is amongst the horse farms on the outskirts of Lexington. They serve scrumptious southern food with a cajun focus.

3.) Lockbox – Lexington

We’ve never had a bad meal at Lockbox and we’ve had all of them – breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

4.) Serafini – Frankfort

This is a downtown Frankfort staple where everything is quality.

5.) Bourbon on Main – Frankfort

Bourbon on Main has a fun and playful menu with great standard and new twists. This was the first place we tried corn ribs.

6.) Boone Tavern – Berea

Longtime quality and hospitality can be found here. Boone Tavern has been serving people since 1909. They recently revamped their menu and we’re eager to try it.

7.) Old Owl Tavern at Beaumont Inn – Harrodsburg

Old Owl Tavern took us by surprise in the best way. You absolutely must get the corn pudding and country ham.

Honorable mention: Rebecca Ruth’s Candy Factory – Frankfort

Rebecca Ruth’s will take an honorable mention spot on this list until we release a Kentucky Candy Guide (keep an eye out). This is where Kentucky’s most famous bourbon balls come from so don’t skip them, but there are so many different types of candy to try here so we say try them all.

Daniel Boone Country

1.) Miguel’s Pizza – Slade

Miguel’s a beloved Kentucky pizza spot. Not much is better than enjoying a pizza and Ale8 here after hiking in Red River Gorge. Don’t sleep on their breakfast either.

Southern Kentucky Vacations

1.) Honeysuckle Cafe – Liberty

This is a place where everything seems to be truly handmade. Honeysuckle Cafe serves plates full of love and excellence, plus they have breakfast all day.

2.) Aloy Mak – Liberty

Authentic Thai in Liberty? Yes, please! High quality ingredients and great service is found at Aloy Mak.

3.) Victorian House – Greensburg

So much thought and love goes into the food, baked goods, and environment here. You won’t be disappointed.

4.) Ol’ Mule Antique Diner – Campbellsville

You have to get to Ol’ Mule Antique Diner quick. They’re known for their burgers, smashed on the grill. When visiting, it will be you and the guys working near by. They’re open weekdays only from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Make sure to bring quarters for the pool table!

5.) Druther’s Restaurant – Campbellsville

The only one left of its kind. If you know you know.

Caves, Lakes & Corvettes

1.) Grammie’s Home Cookin’ – Smiths Grove

Grammies is a relatively new Smiths Grove option. They will serve you a meat and 3 sides or fantastic breakfast – your choice. And yes, Grammie may hug you while you’re there.

2.) Green River Hill Grocery – Canmer

Green River Hill Grocery has daily specials like your granny used to make, Wednesday through Saturday. It is ag-centric and small batch. BTW, GRHG is owned and operated by the founders of Roadtripzee so take this with a grain of salt, but it really is so good.

3.) Kanha Kafe – Glasgow

Incredible Asian cafe in Glasgow. The Pad Thai is everything.

4.) Fine Arts Bistro – Glasgow

Chef Danny will not serve you a bad meal. The black bean burger on a pretzel bun with a kale salad – YUM.

5.) Cave City Pizza – Cave City

Cave City Pizza is so so good and tastes so fresh. It’s a top pizza place for some of the Roadtripzee team who have traveled all over.

6.) Brickyard Cafe – Franklin

The longstanding quality of the Brickyard Cafe shows in their European dishes.

7.) Lighthouse Restaurant – Sulphur Well

The Lighthouse Restaurant is basically in the middle of nowhere, yet is still a destination in itself for so many Kentuckians and we would recommend it to you too. They serve quintessential country food, including country ham and all the fixings, in a family-style format. And pie, of course.

Bluegrass, Blues & BBQ

1.) Farmer and Frenchman – Robards

The amazing wine and French-inspired dishes at Farmer and Frenchman never let us down.

2.) Homer’s Barbecue – Henderson

Homer’s is our favorite in Kentucky’s Barbecueland. Don’t miss the street corn.

We recommend garlic knots while waiting for your delish New York style pizza.

4.) The Farmhouse Restaurant – Madisonville

If you’re looking for the best fried catfish, this buffet style restaurant is the place for you.

5.) Ferrell’s Snappy Service – Madisonville

Ferrell’s is your classic burger joint with stools at the bar and burgers always on the grill.

Western Waterlands

1.) Patti’s 1880’s Settlement – Grand Rivers

Everyone raves about the pork chop at Patti’s – we agree, it’s delicious. Wrap up your meal with the Boat Sinker.

2.) Paducah Beer Werks – Paducah

Paducah Beer Werks has a great selection of beer and pizza.

3.) Gold Rush Cafe – Paducah

There aren’t many places in Kentucky that serve Scotch Eggs. This is one of them and it’s worth the trip.

4.) 50’s Cafe – Calvert City

The 50’s Cafe is a fun spot with great service and delicious breakfast.
