Santa Rosa Island, Florida
Santa Rosa Island is a 40 mile long barrier island that buffers the Florida Panhandle. The island offers a series of beautiful beaches that make relatively quick drives from many Southern cities. We’ve been traveling to the Island for over three decades and while so much has developed it still maintains the quaint flavor of small town Florida, which we enjoy.
Santa Rosa is home to the Gulf Islands National Seashore, which protects miles of pristine white beaches, live oaks, turquoise waters and animal habitats. For centuries, sea turtles have been nesting on the beaches of Santa Rosa Island. If you love conservation effort stories, make sure you stop by and meet Sweet Pea. With permanent injuries from a boat strike, she is now unable to survive in the wild – but her story now plays an important role in raising awareness about conservation. She sure had us smitten while we were there.
