Journals / West Virginia / Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort

We are a family of four; Doug and Lyssa High with our sons Jackson (20) and Harrison (15) from Lexington, Kentucky. Lyssa and I grew up in Mansfield/Willard Ohio (North Central/Northwest, Ohio) and we both took numerous ski lessons in the mid/late 1980’s at Snow Trails Ski Slopes. We were a “good / intermediate” ski level, back in the day…but we haven’t been skiing in 10 years! (We took our boys ONCE when they were 10 and 5…they are now 20 and 15)

We have been wanting to take the family on a ski weekend/vacation, but didn’t want to go too far from home and definitely wanted to drive to it. We also didn’t want to get in too far over our heads based on our “current” ski level (whatever that turned out to be). We knew our boys certainly needed to start back at the beginning with entry level ski lessons and as for us…we hoped it was like riding a bike!

We also were hoping for a place with incredible views where we could commune with winter/nature, along with enjoying a robust ski village with dining and shopping.

WOW…Snowshoe Mountain West Virginia answered all of our prayers! It was all of that…and more.

If you are looking for an Aspen level vibe on this side of the Mississippi…It’s Snowshoe.

A 5.5-hour drive from Lexington, KY and through some of the most wild and wonderful country West Virginia has to offer. A delight, compared to the usual boring interstate “hurry up and get there” routes.

In summary: we were delighted with our weekend ski trip to Snowshoe Maintain Ski Resort, in West Virginia. We made family memories to last a lifetime, and we hope you will, as well. It was a tremendous experience and a first-rate operation. We absolutely want to go back and understand that summers there are just as fun and activity filled as winter!
