A Little Trip to Rough River Dam State Resort Park

There is a little town in Kentucky called Falls of the Rough. It is home to Rough River Dam State Resort Park and a nice little lake restaurant. We’ve stayed at the resort with our kids, we’ve visited the park when attending an event at a venue nearby and we’ve also just driven through for the day.

Our latest trip was one just driving through and it was the first time we have eaten at The Lake House Restaurant.  When we saw the locals arriving, we knew we’d hit the right spot.  Everything seems to be hand made in their kitchen and everything we ordered was delicious.

We chose the hand battered onion straws, fried catfish and fried chicken livers.  However, since writing this we have learned that they will not be re-opening for 2023.

If you decide to stay at the resort, they have a lovely pool, 18 hole disc-golf course and playground for children.  They also have a nice dining room, Grayson’s Landing Restaurant, where you can enjoy local meats and produce when available as well as Kentucky wine and spirits.

Pontoon boats can also be rented at the park if you’d like to fish on or explore the 5,000 acre Rough River Lake. Interested in hiking? Take the Lake Ridge Nature Trail and keep your eyes peeled for bald eagles! 

The resort offers lodge rooms and cottages.  It’s a great destination for spring or fall breaks or a nice summer getaway.
