Mammoth Cave National Park (MACA) was designated in 1941 and is the longest known cave system in the world. The Park encompasses 53,000 acres and with two rivers running through it. The Green and Nolin Rivers Blueway became Kentucky’s first National Water Trail in 2021.
There are 11 backcountry campsites among the extensive trail system, including over 80 miles of trails. Mountain bike trails and horseback riding trails also exist in the trail system.
The Lodge at Mammoth Cave was reopened in the spring of 2024, after an extensive remodeling. They offer several types of lodging, and kenneling of pets for visitors on cave tours. There are several amazing Gateway trail towns that surround the Park if you’re interested in rural experiences during your visit.
